Vanda Spinello
Impressed by Milan’s lively art scene, Vanda Spinello first choose a career in painting. But then there was also the exciting new scene, where art and fashion started to mix, inspiring many artists and designers that were to become the new creative avant-garde: the Memphis group design / fun-fashion à la Fiorucci / photography, all had a strong impact on the development of contemporary visual arts and life styles.
In the 1970s Vanda worked with Fiorucci. And after having collaborated with various artists in painting, photography, video production and design, photography soon turned into one of her main interests. She married Cesare Monti who was one of Italy’s leading music photographers and created many album covers and illustrations for magazines. By the end of the 80s Vanda was not only a painter, but also worked in scenic design, using photography, video and computer technology.
This know-how inspired Vanda Spinello to experiment with various techniques and soon she started to combine photography and painting with computer graphics. Her ease with different design skills offers her a wide range of creative tools. But in spite of this very avant-garde hybrid technique, Spinello’s artistic taste remains very much influenced by the styles and opulence of the Italian renaissance as well as the strictness of Flemish painting. Works are Synthesis of contemporary and past.
